Asmbly, Austin’s largest non-profit makerspace, offers welding classes for enthusiasts of all levels.

Asmbly provides a welcoming and friendly environment where local welding experts guide participants in mastering essential welding skills. The curriculum covers safety protocols, welder setup, bead welding, tack welding, joint welding techniques, tool usage in the metal shop, plasma cutter operation, and cleanup procedures.

Asmbly Makerspace provides over 8,000 square feet of air-conditioned workspace with key-card access, fostering Austin’s creative community. Formed through the collaboration of ATX Hackerspace and Asmbly in 2021, it stands as Austin’s largest non-profit makerspace. Asmbly’s mission is to enrich the creative maker community, offering top-notch creative space, tools, and educational opportunities.

Led by skilled instructors, this foundational class covers welding, cutting, and grinding techniques. Basic MIG welding, fabrication methods, and safe work practices take center stage, setting the groundwork for advanced metalwork classes.

Participants will gain hands-on experience in welding, cutting, and grinding, laying the groundwork for creating steel sculptures. The class emphasizes safety practices, making it suitable for beginners.

All necessary supplies are provided, and participants are advised to wear appropriate clothing for an art studio. Closed-toe shoes and long pants are mandatory for safety, and eye and ear protection are provided, although some students prefer to bring their own.
